About the Center for Mental Health + Aging

We're on a mission to ensure professionals have the training they need provide high quality  mental health care to older adults.

Older adults are the fastest growing age group in the United States and are seeking therapy more than ever before.

And yet… most therapists were never trained to address older adults' unique mental health needs.

That means older adults navigating loss, trauma, chronic illness, dementia disorders, loneliness, and major life transitions are showing up in therapy, and too many therapists feel unsure how to help.

Untreated mental health conditions in older adulthood result in worse medical problems, higher health care costs, family strain, and needless suffering.

It doesn’t have to be this way. We created the Center for Mental Health + Aging to make sure you have all the training and tools you need to meet the mental health needs of older adults.

We've Trained More Than 7500 Therapists, Here's What They Say

The resources are current, and it filled critical gaps in my knowledge. I now feel equipped—and inspired—to advocate for older adults in ways I couldn’t before.

This training was comprehensive and invaluable.

I was searching for a comprehensive course on older adult mental health for months.

Every module was relevant, building on what I knew and giving me new, practical tools. I feel so much more prepared—thank you!

This was probably the most effective training I have ever been to.

The topic is on task for my geriatric practice and directly relevant to challenges and opportunities I face with clients."

I’m so glad you’re here. I’m a Stanford-trained, clinical Geropsychologist and founder of the Center for Mental Health & Aging. For more than 20 years, I’ve worked with older adults and their families in some of the largest health care systems in the nation, including Stanford, Emory, and the Veterans Health Administration.

I’ve seen firsthand how hard it can be for older adults to find mental health providers who are truly trained to help them. The majority of older adults with mental health concerns do not receive the mental health care they need. The result? Worse medical outcomes, higher health care costs, family strain, and needless suffering.

That’s why I created the Center for Mental Health & Aging: to make sure you—and all mental health, health care, and aging services professionals—have the tools you need to meet the mental health needs of older adults.

It’s only with your help that we will improve mental health care for older adults. So, join our movement for Mental Health + Aging. Explore our courses, deepen your expertise with older adults, and join a community that believes there’s no expiration date on healing, transformation, and love.

Welcome!
